This landscaping and development project is part of the approach to enhance and protect the Marshland of Orx site, owned by the Conservatoire de l’Espace Littoral et des Rivages Lacustres, whose management has been entrusted to the Syndicat Mixte de Gestion des Milieux Naturels Landais (SMGMN). This site, of approximately 1000 ha, is the last large protected wetland on the Aquitaine coast, located in the south-west of the Landes department. In consideration of its strong ornithological interest, this vast property has been classified as a National Nature Reserve covering 775 ha since 1995 and integrated into the European Natura 2000 network under the Habitats and Birds Directives. Our intervention consists of developing, promoting and sharing this fragile and rich site, in compliance with the measures for the protection of the natural heritage attributed to it.
It is in this same spirit that we have composed and organised a multidisciplinary team of landscape designers, architects, scenographers and environmental consultants, each contributor being chosen for his or her ability to provide a specific response to the territory, the living, the wildlife, the vegetation and the staging of this exceptional site. Art’Ur is particularly committed to improving the conditions of reception and access to the Marshland of Orx site and to enhancing the existing built heritage in close connection with the landscape and scenographic project implemented by the landscape designers of Interscène.
